Children of Exile A thousand generations cast off of the Land By blind capital's invisible hand Roots cut starve the fruits then they wither the branch Pass down abuse to your children again and again Now go ahead and forget Those who came before you and those who haven't yet There's only one story that matters and you're the hero of it It's just the one in your head Forget it. Now come and listen to this prophecy. I'm here to tell you what this prophet sees We're walking in this pain, the Land locked in chains Not even water is free From here to horizon mined to prop the elite We need to trade in our philosophy Because the Land is the Life Giver, not a piece of property. They said you could be anything you wanted to be So you swallowed the dream You got your college degrees But now you're too busy paying for your laundry machine They've got you too busy to breath Too busy to stop and hear the wind in the trees Fit to drop but we're locked into chasing a dream Drinking the rivers to keep the grass in the lawn green Selling out our children to keep the bombs free But wait. Could't there be another way? In stillness listening, hearing it quicken The soil is singing a song of better days A silent revolution set inside of a seed A vibrant evolution of all that it means To be a humble human on Earth, alive and free.

WOUNDED WARRIOR They simply couldn’t wait There would be no mistake You’d barely tasted your first breath When they set their knives to you. And they carved away At your harmless little frame They said you’d never miss What they took from you What they took from you. Wounded warrior don’t you shake shake it off. Drink your sorrow and break break your heart. Wounded warrior burn your wings and fall. Come back down, aren’t you human after all? They told you not to cry They told you never be afraid They said to rise above the dirt And one day you’d be king But that day is never coming. Wounded warrior don’t you shake shake it off. Drink your sorrow and break break your heart. Wounded warrior burn your wings and fall. Come back down, aren’t you human after all? Weep for what you’ve lost. Weep for what you’ve lost. Weep for what you’ve lost. Weep for what you’ve lost. Wounded warrior don’t you shake shake it off. Drink your sorrow and break break your heart. Wounded warrior burn your wings and fall. Come back down, aren’t you human after all?

AIN’T IT A SHAME When she was a cub there was the darkness of the den And mother’s warmth The air outside was frozen, but she was safe from storms. The day they left the den the light was blinding She wrestled with her sister in the snow And they walked a long time, mother hunted on the ice Caught a seal and shared it with them both. Ain’t it a shame? The day her mother left, she was afraid, she thought she’d die But on the third day after than she caught a seal, from then on she got by. The day she met the Other, so unlike sister and mother He’d disappear the way men always do But something was different, she dug in for the winter And the day her cub was born was the happiest she knew. Ain’t it a shame? Today the ocean shimmers, the warmest of the winters The hunting hard, the thinness of the ice. Oh, her sister’s drowned and dead, she couldn’t keep her cub fed And she looks back the last one of her kind. Ain’t it a shame?

LAY DOWN IN THE FIRE Roots thirst Trunks towering over the hills We grip the earth Been growing for thousands of years. A weary scaffolding for the sky Cracked skin These branches are all bone dry, These branches bone dry. Late is the hour Come lay down in the fire. Late is the hour Come lay down in the fire. Seeds hang Locked in a spiral and safe Sleeping In stillness and silence they wait. The striking of story unraveling flame To awake, any day now it’s coming Any day it’s coming. Late is the hour Come lay down in the fire. Late is the hour Come lay down in the fire.

MEGAPRAYER Lay your swords down, we’re all the same We’re all decaying here together Feel the change, come the rains now Seeds germinate There’s a new world in the soil. Come on, meet me on the other side.
